Wellbeing Pillar
Objective:
Foster a culture of support and wellbeing within the community and design new ways in which we, as a community can prevent mental wellbeing decline.
Why:
Our NHS services are already overwhelmed and, as the climate crisis intensifies we will need to establish community-based programs to reduce our reliance on mental health services. We can do this by addressing issues such as mild depression and climate anxiety within the community.
Mental Health professionals fully support the concept of communities preventing mental health decline by dealing with it early. This is something we can teach a community to undertake. In doing so, and by taking positive action, a community can strengthen its coherence and revive its sense of hope, purpose, and belonging by effectively upskilling and empowering its citizens.
Strategy:
Work collaboratively with local residents, community groups and experienced organisations to change our collective culture around mental wellbeing. We are aiming for a culture where "It's ok not to feel ok, but it's not okay not to talk about it". By creating a culture and a mechanism for low-level depression and anxiety to be addressed supportively within the community we hope to reduce the pressure on our precious NHS services.
